Measure the folded order with every presentation component in place. Useful mailer space depends on thickness, opening access and the exact closure construction.
Build the exact folded order first
Fold the actual garment as staff will pack it. Add tissue, tags, card and other included pieces. Measure the finished width, length and maximum thickness. Record which garment sizes and item combinations the proposed mailer must cover.
| Field | Record |
|---|---|
| Order case | Garment references and item count |
| Fold | Staff method and completed arrangement |
| Envelope | Packed width × length × thickness, with units |
| Loading | Direction and access through the opening |
| Closure | Exact reference and usable sealing area |
Ask how the supplier states mailer dimensions
Distinguish nominal flat width/length, opening and any separately stated flap or gusset. Ask for the drawing or dimension convention used by the proposed reference. Flat dimensions are not directly equivalent to the dimensions of a rigid interior box.
Do not use a universal add-on allowance as a finished fit approval. The sample and closure construction determine the useful arrangement.
Check loading and closing with the actual contents
Try the intended order through the proposed opening and complete the normal closure. Observe fold displacement, loading effort and whether the closure area remains available as intended. Repeat for the thickest normal order and other relevant cases.
Keep any requested return-reuse features separate from the outbound closure check. A generic mailer label or illustration does not establish a second seal.
Record the range and approved artwork area
- Actual order cases reviewed and sample identifiers.
- Supplier dimension convention and proposed drawing.
- Loading/closure observations and unresolved questions.
- Print area and quantity per reference or artwork version.
Compare mailers and boxes if one reference cannot support the intended order range, and keep the record for reordering.
This is a planning method, not a report of completed sample tests. Keep approval tied to the exact proposed construction, artwork and intended use.
Questions about this decision
Can I measure the garment before folding?
That does not describe the packed order. Use the final fold and all included presentation components.
Does mailer length include the closure flap?
Dimension conventions vary by reference. Ask the supplier and use the actual drawing rather than assuming.
How much extra room should I add?
Review the proposed reference with the actual folded thickness, loading and closure. This guide does not establish a universal allowance.
