Specify a cup-and-lid pair by the actual cup reference and rim fit. Nominal fluid capacity describes a size category; it does not establish that a lid or sleeve fits.
Create a reference sheet for each serving setup
| Field | What to send | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Drink and serving conditions | Hot/cold, ice or toppings, intended fill and holding journey | Defines the use to be reviewed |
| Cup reference | Supplier code if known, construction, nominal size and dimensional drawing | Avoids relying on capacity alone |
| Lid reference | Exact lid code, rim match and opening preference | Fit depends on the specific interface |
| Sleeve | Reference, required coverage and sample fit | A sleeve cannot be selected from fluid capacity alone |
| Artwork | Each design, print location and version | A shared logo still needs a reference-specific layout |
Keep rim fit distinct from serving volume
Two cups carrying the same nominal capacity can have different heights, tapers and rim geometry. Request the cup’s rim dimensions and the lid intended for that reference. A diameter measurement is useful information, but a compatible closure also depends on the mating shape and tolerances.
Describe the finished drink, including space occupied by ice, foam or toppings. Ask how the proposed reference is measured and where its intended working fill sits. Do not assume that a nominal 16 fl oz label means a 16 fl oz drink with toppings fits under every lid.
Check a complete sample before approval
- Confirm the cup and lid sample codes match the proposed references.
- Fit the closure following its instructions and inspect engagement around the full rim.
- Evaluate your intended drink and normal service journey under controlled handling conditions.
- Check the sleeve with the filled serving arrangement and intended grip.
- Record which reference, conditions and result were checked.
A successful check applies to that tested arrangement. It does not verify every lid, cup size or beverage. Avoid unsafe heat handling; use the applicable instructions and operating procedures.
Translate the check into a quote request
Send one reference sheet per setup, requested quantity, artwork count, delivery ZIP and needed-by date. Mark whether accessories are supplied separately or included in the proposal. Ask for the final reference-specific print template before building production artwork.
BrandYourPack reviews the specification and confirms the proposed supply, compatibility and commercial conditions in the quote. The public catalogue does not establish a universal lid match.
Questions about this decision
Is a cup marked 12 oz compatible with every 12 oz lid?
No. Identify the exact cup and lid references and confirm the mating rim. A nominal volume is not a compatibility code.
Can I reuse one print file for several cup sizes?
Reuse the logo assets, then prepare each approved cup layout separately. Taper, panels and print area can differ.
What if I do not have a cup reference yet?
Send the intended drink, serving size and closure requirements. The reference and applicable sample/approval process need to be confirmed before ordering.
