Size a subscription box for a defined range of packed editions. Check the large arrangement, the small arrangement and the holding method rather than assuming the largest item solves everything.
Build a contents matrix across editions
| Edition field | Record |
|---|---|
| Items | Exact item and primary-pack references |
| Packed dimensions | Each item as it will be shipped |
| Weight | Actual packed arrangement |
| Position | Orientation and assembly order |
| Holding parts | Insert, divider or fill requirements |
| Card and closure | Space and steps used by finishing components |
Keep the planned range explicit. A product added later may fall outside the range for which the proposed pack was reviewed.
Review both the largest and smallest arrangement
The largest edition tests available space and closure. A small edition can leave items insufficiently held even when it fits easily. Assemble both cases using proposed holding parts, then record movement, access and the customer opening sequence.
Do not solve a small edition only by choosing a larger box. The holding arrangement is a separate decision with its own quantity and material.
Request internal dimensions and the final layout
Record the usable interior envelope with units. Identify any space consumed by liners, partitions or closure geometry. External dimensions may be needed for shipping review but are not interchangeable with the inside fit brief.
Use the box measurement method and the supplier-approved production layout. A Studio preview is useful for discussing appearance; it is not a manufacturing drawing or a protection test.
Compare one structure with a controlled size range
If one proposed box cannot support the intended editions well, compare a small set of reference sizes. Record purchase constraints, artwork versions and assembly complexity alongside the stock benefit. Keep the range manageable for staff rather than treating every monthly variation as a new structure.
Review holding alternatives and the reorder checklist when an edition changes.
This is a planning method, not a report of completed sample tests. Keep approval tied to the exact proposed construction, artwork and intended use.
Questions about this decision
Should I choose the box from the largest single item?
Measure the complete packed edition, including other items and holding components. The largest single item is only one constraint.
Why test a small edition if it already fits?
Fit does not establish holding or assembly. Empty space can change the way the contents move and are presented.
Does a 3D preview establish usable manufacturing dimensions?
No. Use the final reference drawing and sample for production and fit approval.
